    My Approach to Helping

Trained and experienced in the mindful body-based modalities Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), I offer counseling with adults, teens, families and couples that combines strength-based approaches which respect each client’s unique history and growth process. My goal is to facilitate a client’s inner drive for more joyful living. Whether a client’s goals involve personal growth, less conflict and more rewarding relationship, family or work experiences, release from the haunting effects of the past, or especially for teens and young adults, learning safer alternatives to high-risk behaviors, and a safer more satisfying journey towards adulthood while remaining connected with family, I am committed to facilitating each client’s unique process of discovering hisher own voice and embodying hisher unique Self.

Informed by the latest research, mindful approaches use the inner wisdom of each client’s thoughts, beliefs, body sensations and emotions to find unique answers to life difficulties caused by trauma, limiting self-beliefs, internal confusion, and unconstructive emotions or behaviors. With safety and respect, clients gain awareness and clarity about their habitual patterns, and using tools and resources derived from modern brain science, and develop new and more rewarding patterns of thought, emotion, and behaviors.

I am now exited to offer Trauma-informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), a new cutting-edge treatment model developed by Dr. Janina Fisher, PhD, a leading international expert clinician, teacher, and researcher in trauma and dissociation. TIST blends Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Internal Family Systems, and was developed to treat young adult survivors of complex childhood trauma who were chronically suicidal, and exhibited problems such as substance abuse, eating disorders, and self-injury, and were unsuccessfully treated with conventional treatment modalities.
I am also excited to now offer services to transgender and non-binary children, teens, and adults, in order to make a positive difference in the lives of an oppressed highly fragile minority in our midst.

    More Info About My Practice

Recent research has shown that what we eat and how we use our bodies significantly affect our brain function and emotional life.
Practices such as traditional breathing methods, movement disciplines such as Qi Gong and other resourcing movements, relaxation practices, and expressive methods including art, music, and improvisational dance can be integrated into the work as means of nonverbal expression, healing and as inner resources both for difficult moments and for daily life.

In addition, eating practices including using herbs and spices, relaxation practices, and helpful sleep and exercise routines can be included as powerful parts of a total program to support the client’s goals and help bring the total person back into balance.

I accept VT Medicaid, NH Medicaid, NH Well Sense Health Plan, Ambetter, NH Healthy Families, NH DCYF, Community Health Options, Minuteman Health, Tufts, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem, Cigna, Magellan Behavioral Health,Tufts, Optum, ENI, Beacon, Harvard Pilgrim, Aetna, MH Net, and GEHA, .

Specific Issue(s) I’m Skilled at Helping With

I have been extensively trained in helping clients with a history of overwhelming experiences such as neglect andor physical or sexual abuse. I have also been trained in helping clients who have developed self-limiting beliefs about themselves, others, or the world, to find ways to modify these beliefs and find new possibilities.
In addition, I worked for many years with teens in local public schools and in my counseling practice. I speak to teens in ways they can relate to and help parents obtain needed school services. I also support the role of parents as leaders of the family. I have been trained to help parentsstepparents who have given up or have become frustrated or angry, by suggesting new ways to manage conflict within their more traditional or nontraditional family or step-family, and to repair and strengthen their connections with their teens and young adult children. In addition, I am highly trained and experienced working with teens and young adults concerning problems including school failure, substance use and addiction, repeated abusive relationships, self-injury, problems with the law, excessive anger, sexual acting out, eating problems, and other high-risk and self-destructive behaviors.

As evidence of my training and experience, I have been certified and approved as a private practice counselor by NH DCYF to provide confidential individual and family counseling services for youth and families involved with the NH Division for Children, Youth and Families.

I am trained to assist clients in listening to and understanding valuable internal and nonverbal messages from such as anxiety, loneliness, depression and anger, and to discover and initiate positive changes in their lives which tend to relieve these symptoms and increase feelings of joy and a sense of fulfillment of one’s purpose.
