Personal Statement

Experience counts! I have over 30 years of experience serving the individuals and couples of greater Seattle. I use a thorough assessment process that saves considerable time and money, and helps answer the important question: What is changeable and what is not? My approach is grounded in the reality of my own marriage, while using the latest, research based approaches to handling conflict, improving communication, and dealing with different motivations, temperaments, and attachment styles of the couple.

I have dealt with the full range of couples problems, from communication issues to affairs. Most issues can be handled in 8-12 sessions. I closely monitor the client/therapist relationship as that is highly predictive of counseling success.

This atmosphere allows group members to eventually grow to trust one another, and to share, in confidence, their wounds, struggles, and fears, as well as their accomplishments hopes and dreams. A good group ultimately becomes a mutual inspirational process, bringing out the best in everyone. We have seen this happen time and again over the course of our many years as group leaders. A very special, cohesive, and mutually supportive community develops when committed, growth-focused individuals share deeply the story of their life’s journey.
