    My Approach to Helping

All indicators for counseling to be successful, is the connection between the client and the therapist. Research has proven it is the connection (fit) between the client and therapist that matters the most. When we meet, my initial goal will be to provide you with a safe and comfortable experience I am an active therapist and participant in the counseling relationship. This means I ask questions and then give you feedback on how I understand your answer. I will frequently check in with you to ensure I am understanding correctly, an encourage feedback from you. Together we will develop a team approach to addressing the issues that have brought you to my office. As I get to know and understand you, I can assist in finding new ways to think and resolve old problems. I have over 25 years of practice working with people to heal old wounds, develop effective coping strategies and sometimes learn to think in a new framework. When working with couples I teach the tools that make relationships successful. I do believe we can make changes in our lives to discover our own paths to wellbeing.

And yes, I do believe couples can fall back in love with each other.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

It is essential that clients feel there is a “fit” between them and their therapist. In choosing a therapist I would want to know if they are experienced and trained in my particular issue. I also would like to know what I should expect from the first session as well as those following. Once I selected and met with them I would want to feel comfortable to ask questions and to share my life concerns. I would like a therapist to ask for my thoughts on how I believed the session went. From this I could assess if the therapist is a fit for me, and together we could partner on moving forward.
