    My Approach to Helping

I love the individuality and unique health of my clients, how even when struggling with pain and confusion, their basic goodness is present. People bring their best efforts toward a workable and fulfilling life with them into therapy and we look carefully and with kindness at that history. Together we clarify needs and expectations for our time together and begin to increase awareness and understanding of the core self-beliefs which limit possibilities, cause sadness, anxiety, immobilization, and emotional self harm. I respectfully guide individuals and couples to study their deeply engrained patterns and increase their capacity for self knowledge and emotional experience. We work collaboratively and carefully toward new awareness, reduced conflict and increased choices. Many people develop an increase in self-compassion and mindfulness skills that may benefit them for the rest of their lives.

    More Info About My Practice

My office at 6th Avenue and Union Boulevard is near Golden, Green Mountain and Wheat Ridge.

I do not take insurance for privacy reasons and limitations on treatment. For that reason, I have a sliding scale from $90 – $140 per session. If you need a lower fee please let me know, and I can refer you to the Maria Droste Counseling Center intake office for a match with another qualified therapist.

I welcome the opportunity to talk with you on the phone to determine whether we think it would make sense to take the next step and meet. I do charge for in-office meetings, as therapy seems to begin right away when we sit down together.

Specific Issue(s) I’m Skilled at Helping With

I am drawn to working with adult men and women (and young adults) who struggle with relationships, school and work and their sense of purpose. We explore early attachment and traumatic experiences and work toward establishing trust and containment of emotional upsets while gaining awareness of inner processes and beliefs. Early experiences, such as emotional disconnection, neglect, abuse, illness, or even a mismatch between parent and child can lead to sadness, shame, lack of vitality, anxiety, anger and depression. My skills are in providing a safe and containing environment for clients, facilitating direct experience of emotions and beliefs, and expanding the client’s sense of possibility.

I see couples in my practice using an emotionally focused approach which helps each partner understand how their early attachment needs may be part of a negative interaction pattern with their partner. We work toward understanding fundamental needs and couples being able to soften and turn toward each other in all aspects of life. I also enjoy working with parents who are having difficulty with connection or developmental challenges with their children. Together we work to increase attunement and emotional availability, develop firm and loving structure in the home, and address other concerns around attachment due to adoption or illness, divorce and co-parenting, giftedness, or other family challenges.
