My Approach to Helping
***As a precaution against the spread of COVID-19, I have opted to move my practice online for the time being. I have been offering “tele-therapy” for the past five years and have found it to be comparable to office sessions.***
Specializing in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (IS-TDP).
I take a very focused and active approach in treating those suffering with depression, anxiety, addiction – including alcohol and substance abuse. I also provide counseling for couples in conflict. Grief, trauma, self-esteem, LGBT issues and life transitions are other areas where I can help.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
Obviously, competence is primary in choosing a therapist, but do degrees and certifications correlate with competency? I would have to say, “no”. I suggest finding out if your therapist has any accountability measures in place. Given that therapy happens in private, behind closed doors, it is difficult for therapists to stay objective about their work. With voluntary consent, I often video my sessions so that I can review them on my own or with colleagues and mentors. Without that “oversight”, it’s possible to miss my own blind-spots, which could result in compromising my effectiveness. Keeping up to date on the latest findings in mental health treatments as well as ongoing consultation with other professionals gives me the confidence to stand behind my methods.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
The duration and frequency of therapy is determined in collaborative way, and I follow no prescriptive template. My objective is to help reduce suffering as quickly and effectively as possible. Generally, I find the more focused and specific the goal, the shorter the treatment.
