    My Approach to Helping

My practice focuses exclusively on assisting couples to understand why missteps occur in their relationships – and replacing them with habits to create a rich, rewarding, secure and functioning marriage.

If your marriage isn’t feeling stable, likely you’re experiencing some combination of heart ache, worry, hurt, resentment and some form of fear. Intense emotions are simply going to happen when our relationship feels threatened. But strong emotions go hand in hand with a decrease in our ability to think clearly, solve problems, or even hear other’s experience.

There are times when ‘how much you love each other’ isn’t the most important factor for being secure and connected with each other. And being surrounded by common myths about love and relationships, it’s easy to get confused when you’re having difficulties in a relationship with someone you know you love. You may even feel guilty, though you’ve been trying your very best you know how.

But, your marriage or partnership is the most complex relationship in your life. It’ll go through many phases and transitions, get stressed from outside demands, and encounter natural ebbs and flows of intimacy. And marriage in the 21st century is more challenging than ever before. We’ve never put so many expectations on our partners to fill so many roles – while the busyness and other demands of daily life just keep increasing.

At Asheville Marriage Counseling I combine scientific research on what makes secure marriages work, neuroscience about how our brains actually function , and 40 years of counseling experience to collaborate with you and guide you into creating a high quality secure connection in your unique marriage.

    More Info About My Practice

My job is distilling down the knowledge, wisdom, and science behind successful relationships and guiding you to build this into your relationship… in manageable and practical bite sized pieces. Your job is to be open and committed to having the relationship you want… and making your relationship a priority status for a few months as you practice what we cover in your counseling sessions.

You can learn more at my website from the articles and videos I have addressing relationships in more detail.
