    My Approach to Helping

I approach therapy with compassion, care, and connection with clients. I believe that the most important quality in a therapist/client interaction is the relationship between the two. I build a strong alliance with clients in order to create trust so that self-discovery is possible.

My training and experience has taught me the value of exploring interpersonal relationships in psychotherapy and the powerful impact that self-discovery can have on our lives outside of therapy.

Therapy is a complex, highly individualized process that is different for everyone seeking therapy. I seek to understand, set, and meet goals with each person who enters therapy.

    How Psychotherapy Can Help

For some, having the opportunity to talk and be heard by another person is rare and powerful. Many of us struggle with feeling unheard, unseen, and unhappy in the world and neurobiological research now informs psychotherapists in how to heal and mend these wounds in relationship with clients. Therapy can also serve as a safe place to “re-do” life. For example, someone comes to therapy with the goal of developing closer relationships. The therapist can serve as an unbiased observer on how this person approaches relationships in the therapeutic relationship. The therapist can also be helpful in asking questions and guiding the client toward understanding barriers to closeness, trust, and intimacy in the outside world. Therapy can be a safe “testing ground”. Perhaps a person has ideas about how he or she is perceived or what traits he or she possesses. Honest feedback in a safe environment to challenge these core beliefs about ourselves is invaluable and eye-opening.
