Personal Statement
I believe in the ever-present possibility of growth and the power of the therapeutic relationship to facilitate productive change in regard to what is not working or troublesome in peoples lives. As a psychotherapist, I engage in confidential collaborative relationships grounded in respect, empathy, and safety in order to explore and help free people from patterns of functioning that are generally old, now maladaptive and personally limiting. Through achieving a deeper sense of self-understanding and personal growth, I believe in the increased capacity to live more satisfying emotional, social, and professional lives.
I have 25 years of experience in working with individuals and couples addressing such concerns as: depression/anxiety; relational issues/conflict; anger management; sexual orientation/gender; trauma; identity/personal effectiveness; or ways to more effectively manage the stress/issues that can result from the wide variety of challenging circumstances that life may present.
My approach is both Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytically informed (individual) and Family Systems Theory informed (context). I also utilize both solution-focused methods to address more immediate practical concerns and Cognitive-Behavioral approaches oriented toward changing maladaptive thought/behavioral patterns when needed. Individual treatment plans are developed collaboratively around clients unique needs and goals.
