Personal Statement
Life can be overwhelming and sometimes we get “stuck” and need help navigating our way through tough obstacles. Therapy helps people identify, evaluate, and solve problems effectively. We will work together to set goals, examine difficulties, and find realistic solutions that provide relief and clarity. I utilize a warm interactive approach to treatment and incorporate empathy, honesty, and a sense of humor to create a safe and comfortable environment. Individuals are provided with the tools necessary to modify negative thinking and to make positive life changes. In my work with couples, I provide strategies to improve communication, manage conflict, and to solidify trust.
Treatment specialties include: anxiety, depression, relationship issues, dissatisfaction, anger, sexuality/identity questions, trauma, post-traumatic stress, grief/loss, and adjustment difficulties. With couples, I utilize the Gottman Method Couples Therapy and provide a structured, goal-oriented, skills based approach to treatment. Gottman Couples Therapy Level I & II Clinical Training has been completed.
I earned a Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology and Master’s degrees in Clinical and Counseling Psychology. To keep informed of the latest clinical techniques I regularly attend educational seminars. I am a member of the International Association of Trauma Professionals (IATP), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the Virginia Psychological Association (VPA).
