    My Approach to Helping

Are you in emotional pain? At times, we experience feeling overwhelmed, trapped by our fears and insecurities. Many of us have been challenged by loss, anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, trauma, identity or difficult life transitions at some point in our lives. These issues commonly result in struggles to communicate, work, relate or create loving relationships with others. Together we can work toward overcoming these barriers. My goal is to help you work toward change, growth and a more fulfilling life.

The hardest step in therapy is deciding to seek help. I bring to private practice 30 years of experience providing individual, group and family therapy in residential and outpatient care as well as school and home based settings. I utilize a solution-focused, strength-based approach to address your individual and unique needs. I offer a free fifteen minute phone consultation to help address your concerns.

    More Info About My Practice

I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, PPO, Value Options, Magellan and Blue Care Network. If you do to have insurance or are out-of-network, I would be very happy to discuss ways to make therapy available to you. Payment may also be made through Visa or Master Card.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

As your therapist I need time to get to know you to foster a working relationship where progress and change can occur. You may already know that it takes time to warm up to people and get to know them deeply enough over time to be helpful. Changing your life and setting goals takes time because the foundation and framework that caused problems have been in place for some time. Altering thoughts, feelings, and behavior that have been around for a long time takes patience and commitment. My goal is to help you feel comfortable while revealing private thoughts and concerns that may be embarrassing and scary. I am a nonjudgmental and caring person. My goal is to help you live a happier life.

    What Makes up a Problem?

Feeling stuck is a FEELING, not a fact. When we feel stuck, typically our first instinct is to look outside of ourselves for someone or something to blame. In reality, we ought to be looking at how we’re feeling, what we’re thinking, and how we plan to respond. Your life is your responsibility. While you can’t always change what’s outside of you, you can certainly change your perception of it. And the funny thing is, when you change the way you look at things, the things themselves change.

Feeling stuck is a sign that it’s time to make a change. It could be a change of heart, a change in your perspective, or a change in your habits. But the point in any case is that the way you are doing things is no longer working. What you need to do won’t be easy, but it will be worth it in the end. If you’ve been asking the same questions for a long time, yet you are still stuck, it’s probably not that you haven’t been given the answers, but that you don’t like the answers you were given. Remember, it takes a great deal of courage to admit that something needs to change, and a lot of courage still, to accept the responsibility for making the change happen.
