My Approach to Helping
At this stage of my career (semi-retired and working because I very much enjoy it), my primary interest is in helping individuals and couples resolve the issues that interfere with their enjoying satisfying, emotionally intimate relationships. I work with both individuals and couples. My approach is relational, present-centered, emotionally focused.
More Info About My Practice
My wife and I have recently moved to Salt Lake City from Seattle in order to be close to our family, especially our grandchildren. I am continuing to work because I love how my work continues to evolve. For the past forty + years, I have had a dual track career in psychotherapy and somatic therapy. I am certified in Somatic Experiencing. I am also a Continuum Movement teacher, and find this an extraordinary adjunct to psychotherapy. I have recently completed my first book, “Healing the Wounds of Childhood: A psychologist’s journey and discoveries from wretched beginnings to a thriving life.”
I do not bill insurance but happily give you the codes and receipts to bill your company. Many of my clients get reimbursed by their companies.
Specific Issue(s) I’m Skilled at Helping With
Working with people who have had trouble with intimate relationships. Why? Because in my very early adulthood, I failed miserably, and set out on a journey of learning how to be successful. My wife and I have been happily married for 27 years.I also work a great deal with trauma issues.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
You can give a person a wonderful fish dinner, and they will be satisfied for an evening. Or you can teach a person to fish, and they will eat well for the rest of their lives. Learning to access our essential nature is learning how to fish.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
My own history was one of severe physical and emotional abuse. It has been my life’s work to discover what really helps not only “to recover” but to move beyond. I have found what it takes to love being in a body, which given where I started out, is a miracle.
