    My Approach to Helping

    Thank you for visiting this page. I will be happy to explain how therapy or coaching can help for your particular needs during your free 15-minute consultation.     Therapy and coaching sessions are structured to help you get the results you want. Each therapy session will be shaped by your particular needs.

    There are two main ways to have therapy, which are described below. I will work with you to determine the best approach for your situation. The best approach to help you get the results you want may involve a combination of styles or techniques.

    1. Open-ended Therapy Sessions: Some people work towards the solutions best by having a weekly appointment and sharing whatever is on their mind in an open-ended way. This facilitates awareness and personal growth. I will provide space to explore whatever you are experiencing in the moment, and provide guidance to consider your thoughts and feelings in ways that foster insight.

    2. Structured Therapy Sessions: Some people find the solution lies in highly structured sessions. In structured sessions, a clear plan is always in place and you will know exactly what is going to happen at every session. You might be guided to practice particular skills or review certain types of interactions with specific, targeted goals for improvement.

    Both of the approaches above are helpful, depending on your situation. I am also skilled at combining them in a way that suits your particular needs. In your initial sessions, you and I will work together to determine the best approach for you.

    More Info About My Practice

    I submit claims to all insurances as an out-of-network provider. I work with clients that have Cigna, Aetna, BCBS, and United, and many of them are able to get reimbursed the majority of session fees. My insurance billing specialist will gladly check your benefits for you in advance of your appointment if you kindly give enough lead time- usually just 24-48 hours is required. Once you are a client of Carmichael Psychology, my insurance billing specialist will gladly submit claims on your behalf, and work to get the money collected from the insurance company. You will not have to file claims yourself- she takes care of everything. We make the process easy for you! You can submit your insurance information via my website or by calling 212-729-3922 and we’ll get back to you with an exact quote from your policy within 24 hours (usually within 2-3 hours during business day, maybe slightly longer on weekends).

    The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

    This answer really depends on the person. Some people are very focused and want to work on a particular problem for just a few sessions, while others prefer to have a standing weekly appointment. When we meet, we can discuss your issues and decide which way is best for you.
