    My Approach to Helping

Does your past interfere with your present? Do you sometimes feel that getting up and motivated is just too difficult? Have you and your spouse become roommates whose relationship is more about managing the family and household than about love? Do you wonder if what you are doing with your life is good enough, or what you were really meant to do? Have anxiety, depression, or anger gotten so strong that they are negatively impacting your daily life?

My name is Bryan Truelove and these are some of the most common issues that I help people work through. Change is possible, therapy can be effective, and an objective professional listening to your concerns and offering guidance as needed might just be the piece of the puzzle that has been missing.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

Picking the right therapist to work with could be the most crucial part of the entire process. I know there are a lot of professionals in the mental health field, and quite a few acronyms after their names. Unless you work in this field it can be a challenge to decide who/what is the best professional to help you with your concerns. With this in mind I have written an entire article that defines each role (LMHC, LCSW, Psychologist, Psychiatrist, and others). I also give a great deal of additional information and tips that will help you make the best choice for you and your situation. You can read this and other articles on my website at

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

In addition to having the everyday imperfections we all face in life, I have a genetic condition that has slowly taken my sight. I was born with normal vision, and didn’t really start to lose it until my early 20s. At this point I can see little more than shapes and shades of gray. This has taught me over the years to think in a solution focused way. There are some things in life that won’t change, but very few that can’t at least be improved. In addition to this positive attitude about what’s possible, my blindness also limits the visual distractions most people aren’t even aware they have. Listening is a skill most therapists (should) develop. For me it’s a way of life.
