Personal Statement
I have extensive experience working as a licensed marriage and family therapist, where I also offer individual counseling. For many of my 30 years in practice, I have supervised other therapists, have written articles for many magazines, and have maintained an online advice column (Ask Betsy). I am an expert in treating depression and anxiety, using mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, in particular, to prevent relapse of depression.
You can expect me to be an advocate for you. This does not mean that I will sit quietly and agree with your perceptions. It means that I will look out for your best interestasking direct and challenging questions, encouraging you to confront and change negative behavioral patterns, and discussing difficult topics even when its painful. Real change comes from honesty, insight, and a willingness to work toward transformation.
If you’re struggling with depression or anxiety, I can teach you techniques that will help you break free from mental looping. If you’re struggling with indecision, your program will include a daily practice of decision-making. Whatever you wish you could be doing can be broken down into discrete, doable tasks that will help you build confidence and skill, and give you the practice you’ll need to stay on the right path.
