My Approach to Helping
Is your worry wearing you out? Do you live in fear of your next wave of panic? Anxiety issues rob you of peace, self-esteem, and joy. The good news is, you CAN learn to control your reaction to your fears! Anxiety is one of the most successfully treated conditions. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than 90% of people with an anxiety disorder will make a good recovery if given appropriate treatment. I use a combination of relaxation and body awareness training and cognitive-behavioral interventions when teaching people to get their anxious reactions under control.
In addition to helping people calm their anxiety, I also use the same processes, combined with one-on-one attention and empathy to help people lift their depression, heal emotional pain, and improve their relationships. I believe everyone has the inner wisdom and potential to learn what they need to learn, change what they want to change, and live the life of peace, joy, and happiness that they envision.

My Role as a Therapist
As your therapist, my role is to be completely present for you and attentive to you. You are in my office because you’re in distress and you want to feel better. I see myself as your guide. I’ve been down my own path of emotional pain and distress and found my way to peace of mind and contentment (interspersed with moments of joy!), so I know that it can be done and that there are ways to get there. I can “hold the flashlight” for you, so to speak, as you find your way to your own healing and happiness. My role includes being trained and staying updated in the many ways there are to change how you experience your life. The most important part of being your guide, though, is to be someone you can trust, someone who SEES you and HEARS you, and someone who empathizes completely with you. I am your biggest cheerleader! I know you can do it, even if you can’t see it or feel it for yourself yet.
My Therapy Focus
I believe that our emotional distress can come from one or more of several causes: losing our connection to ourselves and/or others (depression, loneliness), not being able to feel or use our own power (anxiety, fear, inability to say “no”), and emotional or physical trauma/abuse/neglect (depression, anxiety, relationship problems) . There are many issues which bring people into therapy, and most of them can be boiled down to one of these base causes. Therefore the focus of the therapy work I do with people involves helping them to own and manage their emotional energy, to feel empowered, and to heal the effects of past trauma, abuse, and/or neglect. Also, when working with people, I keep my focus on the special, unique, and important person who IS THERE underneath the pain and distress and guide this person until they can see their specialness, uniqueness, and importance for themselves.
