My Approach to Helping
Therapy is a transformative process.
Like all good transformative endeavours it takes a meaningful part of life and changes how we experience it. The aim of therapy is a changed sense of who we are.
To put it as simply as I know how, you take the courageous step of working with me to develop a sustained, focused, compassionate self-observation. This supports you as you develop qualities like being more patient, more forgiving, more alive, less afraid, more heartfelt, and more kind towards yourself.
You come to know the places where you may work against yourself and learn to help yourself through them with love. You move towards building a basic relationship with yourself as someone worth knowing deeply, as someone with creative, meaningful, and beautiful potential.
This ripples out across many aspects of your life, transforming your sense of self, easing your distress, and opening up possibilities.
Specific Issue(s) I’m Skilled at Helping With
Being a long term meditation practitioner myself, I love working with clients who are deeply engaged in practices like meditation, prayer, and/or yoga, offering them the unique healing experiences of therapy.
These kinds of practices reveal previously unknown and beautiful aspects to life. But they also bring you into a more direct contact with your unique personal history, with the trials and tribulations of becoming you. They can make you more aware of where you hurt.
Working with a therapist who understands the intersection of personal therapy and these profound practices may be just what you need.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
I love therapy. I love depth.
There is a growing understanding as to what creates lasting well being for people. It comes in part from psychology and in part from the world’s wisdom traditions. It has to do with being able to consider ourselves with both equanimity and care. When we are able to stand back and reflect upon our lives while also being deeply engaged in them something profound changes.
I believe that healing relationships are one of the best ways to help create this kind of life for as many people as possible. It is the purpose of therapy and I love having the opportunity to devote myself to it.
